YLC and SBP - Hurricane Ida Rebuilding Efforts

11/06/2021 09:30 AM - 03:00 PM CT

Location

Houma or LaPlace, [No State]

Description

YLC is proud to partner with SBP to aid the rebuilding efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ida.  SBP (formerly the St. Bernard Project) began as a nonprofit disaster relief program in St. Bernard Parish following Hurricane Katrina.  They have since expanded their reach and now respond to disasters across much of the Southeast.

Our day will include any of the following: debris removal, mucking/gutting, and/or mold remediation.  We will either be in Houma or LaPlace and unfortunately will not know which city/address until the day prior (Friday), as their operations are responsive to which location has the most pressing need.  If you are someone with a respiratory condition it is advised to not register for the event as mold remediation could be our task that day.

SBP provides all supplies - gloves, goggles, Tyvek suits, respirators, etc. - depending on the type of service being completed.  It is recommended to wear long pants and closed toe shoes.

We will take a lengthy pause (~1 hour) during our day for a lunch break.  SBP can not provide lunch so please bring your own or plan to grab a bite in town.

We strongly encourage carpooling.  If you plan or wish to carpool please let our coordinators know (YLCassists@gmail.com).

Our day of service is one of a handful that YLC and SBP are teaming together!  If you cannot make this date please look at the YLC calendar for other opportunities.  Additionally, SBP takes volunteers Mon - Sat and if you wish to volunteer individually you may contact volunteer@sbpusa.org.

In accordance with both YLC and SBP COVID-19 policies, all volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated in order to serve on-site.  All members must present proof of vaccination (either their LA wallet or a photo of the front and back of your card) when you arrive.
