Description

YLC Toastmasters will be back!

Improve your public speaking skills with the help of other young professionals through YLC Toastmasters.

Join us In JANUARY for in-person at the YLC Building.

Participants will aim to complete two speeches and give one peer evaluation each session. After completion of a session, you will move on to a higher level in the next session with progressing speech criteria. All materials are provided to you each week.

You must be an active YLC member to participate in YLC Toastmasters.  Not sure if you're a member? Email us at info@ylcnola.org.

How It Works

There is no instructor in Toastmasters. Instead, attendees are assigned a quick presentation and we evaluate one another’s delivery. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Be ready to give impromptu talks on assigned topics, prepare a speech in advance, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar, critical thinking and evaluation skills, all very transferable to the professional world.

Members learn these communication skills by working through the Competent Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a foundation in public speaking. Everyone does this at their own pace.

This Toastmasters Club is set up in a way that anyone can join, regardless of prior speaking experience, and - in a safe space - gain feedback on their speaking posture, how to effectively provide someone else feedback on their impact and how to improve, as well as how to speak on the spot to an unrehearsed question.
